Message from the Mayor

The summer has been quite exciting with the openings of Aldi Food Store and Chick-fil-A.  Both are located along Route 40 near the Delaware border.  Also, on the corner of Howard St. and Bow St., you'll find a great farmers market full of local growers and vendors.  I encourage everyone to check them out, if you haven't done so already!

A few weeks ago, the Town Commissioners and I attended the Maryland Municipal League's Summer Conference which includes representatives from the 157 incorporated towns/cities throughout the state.  This opportunity provided informative seminars on various topics, to include: Going Green, Maryland Public Information Act, and Fiscal Challenges/Planning for the Future.

Elkton received the "A Plus for Delmarva Award" by the American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula for supplying a facility which accommodates their administration and various training functions in the Elkton area.  The Town also celebrates Red Cross Month, held in March, through proclamation of support.

The Junior Police Academy has turned out to be a success!  Due to the great interest, Elkton Police Department offered three sessions to accommodate the 77 students that committed to participate in police related activities such as mock traffic stops and handcuffing.  If you are interested in various activities for people of all ages, look out for the fall/winter Activity Guide published by the Department of Parks & Recreation.

We still have a few weeks left in the summer season, if you have any questions about housing standards for grass, pool permits, or building a deck, please contact the Department of Building & Zoning at 410-398-4999.

Sincerely,

Joseph L. Fisona
Mayor
