"Crimes of Opportunity" increase with warm weather.
Most locations targeted are single-family homes in developments and/or apartments complexes where many vehicles are parked.
It only takes a minute for thieves to check and see if the vehicle door is unlocked; and, reach in and quickly steal any items left inside. If the vehicle is locked, they often move on looking for the next easy target. This is also true with garages when the doors are left open and a vehicle is left unlocked, thieves have a little more time to rummage around and take items out of a car.
Items usually taken: electronics, money, credit cards, CD's, and golf clubs. Basically, anything that can be easily sold, pawned or given to friends.
So please LOCK YOUR CAR - CLOSE YOUR GARAGE DOOR. Don't be an easy target for a thief.
